DDI Summer Updates
Hello Everyone, thanks for tuning in to our blog! We know it’s been a while since the last update but we are aiming to keep the blog more up-to-date for you guys!
As you all may already know, the focus for the month of June was Men’s Health Month! We kicked off the month by posting to Facebook about some health risks that men, over the age of 50, are more prone to such as:
- Heart disease
- Cancer
- Diabetes
- Chronic lower respiratory disease
- HIV
- Cerebrovascular disease
- Injuries
- Stroke
- Depression
- Prostate Cancer/Prostatitis
The following week we focused on mental wellness for men. Some of the things we learned about were:
- Even though women have high depression and suicide attempt rates, men are four times more likely to succeed at committing suicide.
- Suicides in men are more likely to occur between the ages of 45-64.
- Some sources of depression include marital status, socio-economic status, employment status, sexual orientation, and chronic illness.
- 90% of suicides are preventable with treatment.
The third week of June, we shared various men’s health facts that ranged from alcohol dependence to diabetes.
Lastly, the fourth week of June we focused on what men can do to contribute to safe sex practices. We shared some of the most dangerous mistakes in condom use as well as some psychological issues that are faced when using condoms during sexual intercourse.
We also asked all of our Facebook friends to post pictures of themselves wearing blue on Friday’s during the month of June, using the hashtag #DDIMensHealthMonth. The winner of this campaign was: Prentice Searcy!!! Congratulations and thank you for your support!
Events and Special Announcements:
The winners of our Women’s Health Month campaign in May were Tonia Brown and Leslie Graddick!!! Congratulations ladies, keep active and stay fit! We appreciate you sharing pix of you being active and keeping yourself healthy!
On June 11th, we held our 2nd Makeup & Mental Wellness open forum in Thomaston GA. The ladies discussed mental wellness topics effecting women today, while enjoying fabulous makeup tips. It was a great turnout, and we absolutely cannot wait for the next session! Special thanks to Britini Brown, LCSW for insight on our inner beauty, Erin Walker – MUA for insight on our outer beauty, and Sheila Colbert for hosting this event. Also special thanks to our DDI team members, Renee Harris and Phyllis Jackson, for pulling this event together!
During the month of June, we also recognized Miss Taylor Stringer of Spalding High School as our final scholarship recipient of the year! She received $500.00 to go towards her education. Go Taylor, #DDICARES! Thank you all for supporting our efforts to afford these opportunities! Did you know we gave away a HISTORIC 4 scholarships this past school year??!!! WOOOHOOO!
